Volunteering opportunities & VolunTeen Program
The library has a variety of volunteer opportunities for teens (for Silver Cord, community service, general interest, etc..) for those in 7th-12th grades. This includes both occasional opportunities to help with youth programs or other projects, as well as the ongoing VolunTeen program (where trained volunteers serve on a regular basis.) Applications start to be available in April for the upcoming summer for the VolunTeen Program; limited school year hours may be available for experienced volunteers. Call, stop by, or email Joa at jlaville@marshalltown-ia.gov for info.
tween/Teen Cafe
Kids who are in 5th – 12th grades have the option to use the Tween/Teen Cafe space which includes computer stations, games, art supplies, and space where youth can hang out. Earphones, gaming headsets, and iPad tablets are avaialble for use in-house. Students must sign in at the youth desk to use the Cafe, and time may be limited to 2 hours, depending on space and demand. (To respect the atmosphere of this space, the age guidelines are firm; younger kids and parents are welcome to use the rest of the youth department while older students spend time in the Cafe.)
